Moonlit Hilltop

Lying flat with their backs on the car,
they gazed at the moon that shone tonight like a star.
Parked by the lonely road on the hill side,
they breathed slow and heavy into the eerie midnight.
He ran his fingers along her lacy hem,
it was like the world had just started, no one but them.
She felt his fingers dancing with her dress,
turned to look at him, play with his hands and caress.

He was the guy she came to know love with,
she was the girl who disproved that love is a myth.
But like every good thing that after a while ends,
they called their love quits and decided to stay as friends.
When their eyes met for a brief moment,
the haunting past had flashed in that glance.
Quickly turning away from each other,
they knew there can’t be another chance.

He wanted to reach out to her and hold her hand,
to never look back but run to that far away land.
But "Look!" she cried, at the umbra in the April sky,
startled by her voice, he wondered if there were rules to play by.
She beamed at him grinning with joy,
And he fell in love again, oh that poor boy!
She had one arm stretched out pointing to the moon,
His heart skipped a beat at the smile he missed since June.
